Blog Assignment #9

Step1
For FIT: FIND THE RIGHT SPOT, I agree the author’s idea. Not only the exciting Rudolph example, but his opinion has been proved for many times in actual world. First of all, even though the Rudolph’s example is a fairy tale, it still tells a truth, there must be a use for my talent. In my opinion, the fairy tales absolutely isn’t only the funny stories for children, they are the easy-understand version truth to give people correct senses when they are young. Therefore, the Rudolph’s story is a correct principle. People always feel helplessness in study, work, live. They fail the texts. They screw up their business. They feel their family is more like an arena, a prison. They probably complain they might be the worst one, the loser in the world. Just like the author’s talk, people who feel negative for themselves just didn’t find where they can use their talent. If they find where to use their talent, they might be successful in their field. At least, they probably can feel better than before. For instance, Bill Gates was not really good for university’s studies. If he has continued his negative condition, we probably can’t use computer with windows, I can not write down this paragraph with Microsoft Word, and we probably can not play the Halo and Gears of War because we can not own the X-Box 360. However, Bill Gates tried to find a way to use his super talent, and then he quitted his university live determinedly to build the most famous software company, Microsoft, and create the modern digital media industry. For me, I think I am really lucky because I believe painting is my correct spot and I am just doing everything about it.

For FLAWLESS: THERE’S NOTING WRONG WITH YOU, I agree with the author’s idea. When we was children, seniorities usually tell us what types of personalities we should be, and at that time, we are not able to distinguish whether they were talking correct or wrong; therefore, we just followed the seniorities’ directions. We have been clean, organized, and other “good personalities”; however, in the meantime, we have lost a lot of “bad personalities”, containing creative ability. Can people imagine what a ridiculous that is? We just look like clean, but we are actually no different with walking dead. I would rather be a freak instead a zombie, and I am pretty sure no one wishing to be a zombie. I totally agree with the author on this issue since I had been told too much to be a person with “good personalities” Just four years before now, I almost forgot how to create a character when I paint. After I finished the art final test in China, I moved out of my home and try to do something I used to want to do. I watching movies and animations that I wasn’t allow doing before I took art final test every day, and I thought I find part of my creative ability back. Therefore, the limits always are not good for people’s progress. Just like the author’s thought, THERE’S NOTING WRONG WITH YO, we shouldn’t be confined to what kind of people we suppose to be. Nowadays, I am trying to shake my old mental yoke away, and I am pretty I will keep this way.

For FORGET IT: DON'T’T TRY TO FIX YOUR WEAKNESSES, I agree with the author. It is difficult to avoid our weaknesses since all of our weaknesses are the parts of us. We can not fix it, and I think hiding them is only thing we can do about weaknesses. Also, even though we only try to hide weaknesses, it is still painful. People’s weaknesses are an important portion of human’s emotion area. If we want to take weaknesses away from ourselves, we must lose other elements of personalities because there is no any trait really being independent with others. For instance, the spies are usually trained to delete some personalities that hinder them doing the mission; therefore we can see most of them forget how to trust and love other people after they are trained to be more vigilant. Although we are not the spies and we do not take the serious training, we still endure the pain when we try to hide our weaknesses. For me, I am messy in my space. I put my comic books and video games on the floors, and sometime I can not find my cellphone, which just was under of one paper. Now, on my desk, I even can not find a piece of free space to put my laptop. Can you imagine how messy I am; however, I think the messy of my personality make me more creative and act on my painting job. At beginning of my paint, I always just draw some shape randomly, and during this process, I can find some good ideas commonly. Therefore, I don’t hide my weaknesses because they are useful for me.

Step2
For me, I think I have not found all my strengths and weaknesses. Maybe I know some of them, but I just haven’t realized they are my strengths and weaknesses. Actually, I have found some of them currently. For some of my personalities, which were shared by both strengths and weaknesses. First of all, messy is the most obvious one. I got a lot of problems about it. When I studied in high school, I can not find my Chinese text book because both of my home and my back bag are chaos, so my Chinese teacher didn’t allow me into the classroom; however, I am also proud of my messy. After I decided to be a 2D artist, the messy help me a lot. Messy some times help me to dope out some good ideas. For instance, last quarter, I was thinking to draw a picture of Star Wars, and I was confused what character, environment, and situation I could draw. At that moment, I felt I was just live in a monster’s stomach because of my really messy room; however suddenly, I was think out a good idea because my room of monster’s stomach. I was thinking how about if Boba Fett has still alive in the sand monster’s stomach, what would happen? Then I sketch a concept picture and paint color for it on photoshop. Therefore, I believe messy cause me in troubles sometimes, but it also leads me being more creative. I don’t really see my weaknesses negative, and oppositely, I usually try to use their function in a correct way.

Blog Assignment #8

Step 1
First of all, Acknowledging of Lizard is a serious resistance that stops people that force you to come back to the instructions. When people want to make a positive adventure or do something creative, the Acknowledging of Lizard will jump out to tell people that what they are willing to risk is really dangerous. In addition, making art is my favorite level in the article since art makes me happier in my life. Making art is a creative activity that doesn’t follow any direction, and give people a huge freedom in their mental world. Moreover, the connection is a new type of digital way to communicate with other people who might really know in actual world. The connection that the author mentioned is not the hypocritical way in some public moments, such as speeches and charity events. It is a direct way that connect people’s mental worlds.
Step2
Have you imagined how awful the older education system is? Before reading this article, I still think I should follow the direction that older education system give me, such as being good on mathematic, always do something that our teacher ask us to do, and not doing extra work. After I read this article, I realized that my brain really have been washed for a long time, my first entire 21 years life. However, I think the media 203 is a different type of class. It teach us being more creative, and give us freedom to do the concept in our brain; also, the blog assignments give us lot of freedom that we can choose the audios, videos, senses, pictures that we like for homework. For me, this quarter I learn a lot from Media 203 and this blog, and I think our class contains some elements of seven layers. I personally prefer making art, acknowledge the lizard, and connection more.
First of all, I am a 2D concept artist, so I have more sentiment of making art. When I studied sketch in China, I had no choice to draw what I want to draw. The only thing I have to draw is human’s head portrait since it is the only project that Chinese painting text for college offers. In that time I really hate the painting because I really don’t like draw human’s head portrait everyday, but now I feel happy since in Ohio University and media 203, I have enough freedom to draw what I want, what ever monster, naked girls, or Darth Vader; and also, painting and making art also make me more creative to do other things, such as our blog assignments. In addition, acknowledge the lizard is a new concept to make me being more creative. Before taking media 203, when I want to do something I had never tried, I felt afraid to do it, and I think that is the mental resistance. For instance, I had never tried 2D animation before because I felt afraid to waste time to do a new thing that maybe I would screw up; however, when I took the media 203, I had to do a small animation project, and then, I think I did it well. I also told myself that is not that hard I imagined. The class encourages me a lot and helps me take a part of mental resistance. Moreover, the digital connection also helps me a lot. For example, Facebook gives me more opportunities to contact with more people, and e-mail provides me more chances to touch game companies.
Those are three levels that help me most in Media 203 and blog assignments. I appreciate it and I think I will keep them and carry on in future.

Blog Assignment #7

Step1

Step2
I chose the sense from the movie, Scent of a Woman. In my opinion, the theme is romance, and this story is about how a blind wardroom rekindles the enthusiasm for life. Especially in the upper sense, this sense show to audiences that how a romantic feeling that the old wardroom can give to women even though he is a blind person. Moreover, this sense is active because the director gives the active personality to the blind wardroom; also, this sense is around a graceful dance that gives audiences a active emotion indirectly but also stronger.
Step3
I choose a sense of Scent of a woman. For shape, both of Al Pacino and leading lady have the rounded heads. Being different than triangle head, rounded heads are not willing to have sex as soon as possible. In my opinion, the rounded heads always symbolize people are mature and modest, especially for Al Pacino, because he is a gentlemanly actor, he make the role’s mature personality deeper; therefore, audiences can find a feeling as grace when Al Pacino and leading lady played a vague dance instead the sexual hint. For movement, the director used more object movement than camera movement for this sense. I think the reason why the director did this is he wants to highlight the Al Pacino’s role’s positive emotion although he was a blind person.
For the week one’s two of six binary, I choose the color and light. The Scent of a woman used bright light since I think the director want to give audiences an emotion that Al Pacino’s role is a positive person even though he was experiencing a horrible wound; also, the leading lady is a young and powerful maiden that set Al Pacino’s role brighter because he had a serious physiology defect. In addition to color, the director also makes a bright light environment. In the dancing floor, we can see the sunshine came from some big windows. Also, in the sense, the sunshine reflect on both Al Pacino and the leading lady’s face that make them look happy and pure even though they are a old blind wardroom and a beautiful young lady, which not looks like a normal couple. The movie, Scent of a woman, used the bright light to make audiences forgot every disharmonious elements to focus on the graceful dance.

Blog Assignment #6

First of all, the first picture is in a warm hue with red and yellow. Those two color are two analogous warm colors that give audience a mood that the environment is safe and hypnotic that making people relax their vigilance. Inversely, the second picture is in a dark hue with dark blue, dark purple and black, which also are analogous colors. Dark blue, dark purple and black give audience a feeling as dangerous and intense. For saturation, the first picture is medium saturated that suit the hypnotic environment. The second picture use a ramp saturated on the curtain. In other part in sense, the second picture also is medium saturated. Related to the hue, first picture’ brightness is bright, and second is dark.
Moreover, the light in the first picture is bright since the sense is in daytime and the sense has a window. In addition, the bright light gives the audience an emotion that the sense is safe. The light in the second picture is darker because the environment in the second picture is a closed room. The light in the second picture are only from the lamps that give audiences constriction mood. Furthermore, the first picture doesn’t give a clear shape by shadow of the character since the director doesn’t want the audiences paying too much attention on character because of its hypnotic atmosphere. Oppositely, the second picture gives character a clear shape by shadow to show she is the main object in the sense, and there is more shadow on her face to symbolize her evil personality. In addition, the bright light in first picture symbolizes there is peaceful atmosphere in the sense, and the dark light in second picture symbolizes an immoral atmosphere.
Furthermore, the movement in those two pictures is different. In the first picture, the line of chairs’ back and the border of table constitute parallel movement lines, and in the second picture, the pattern of curtain is parallel movement lines. Moreover, the director doesn’t use overlapping movements in the two senses. In addition, the second picture has more weight than first one because of the dark color usually looks heavier.

Blog Assignment #5

Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2s preview is the video that I chose for blog assignment week3, and I m going to discuss it in three ways, 180 degree rule, rule of thirds, and 30 rule.

First of all, the director crosses the 180 degree rule at the beginning part of Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2 because the main character is moving while he is on screen, and director establish a new 180 line in front of main character. In the medial part of Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2s preview, the director also crosses the 180 degree rule since the camera dolly cross the 180 line during that shot. After that, the director crosses the 180 degree again because there a huge chimpanzee enters the sense; however, the director follows the 180 degree rule in most time and the director doesn’t use the illegal way to cross the 180 degree way.

In addition, Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2s preview follows the rule thirds. For example, the main character and the dead monster constitute a perfect thirds rule’s sense at one minute and twenty-two second. In another instance, at 46 second, the main character’s cape’s hat, his lower jaw, the ceiling of hallway, and the spark constitute a 3 thirds rule’ sense.

Moreover, Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2s preview’s director doesn’t really use any rule of 30. I think the reason is the sense doesn’t have any visual conversation, and the camera always focuses on the main character. Furthermore, in the fight part, the director chooses to dolly the camera instead to use the rules of 30.

For the Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2s preview’s director himself/herself. I think he/she did a great job. He/she use the appropriate ways via the 180 degree rule and the rule thirds to show the tension environment and main character’s mixed emotion.

___________________________________________________________________

Sum41 is one of my favorite bands. I chose their two songs, Hell song and So Long Goodbye as items to compare.
First of all, Hell song has an irregular rhythm because Hell song is a mutative punk song. On other the hand, So long goodbye is a regular, and it is more like a traditional madrigal. For intensity, Hell song is a loud punk song that shows the singer’s anger. Inversely, So long Goodbye is a soft love song that shows the pure emotion. Hell song has a high pitch, and So Long Goodbye has a low pitch because of their musical genre. For timbre, Sum41 builds the Hell Song more complex than So Long Goodbye because they use a mutative way to arrange the Hell Song with instruments, such as furious guitar’s sounds and drum’s sounds. On the other hand, the So Long Goodbye has a peaceful and simple arrangement of melody because mostly, the So Long Goodbye only has guitar and viola solo as accompany. For speed area, the Hell Song has a medium speed at the refrain part and has a fast speed at the climax; in addition, So Long Goodbye only has slow speed over the whole song because of its love genre. For organization, both of the Hell Song and So Long Goodbye are ordered, but the Hell Song has a little chaotic part. That is the end of second time of refrain that Sum41 doesn’t finish the entire refrain as first time, then, they directly sing the climax.
In addition, for time and tempo, the Hell Song is an allegro song and So Long Goodbye is an andante song. For source, drum, guitar, and bass drive the Hell Song because of its punk genre. On the other hand, So Long Goodbye is only driven by soft guitar and viola solo. For groove, the Hell Song is funky, intense, and blasting. Inversely, So Long Goodbye is soulful and hypnotic.
Moreover, the Hell Song’s lyric is angry, intense, and disgruntled because its punk genre usually is against to social rules. On the other hand, So Long Goodbye’s lyric is peaceful since it is a love song that lyric writer often add the graceful words in the songs. For melody, both of Hell Song and So Long Goodbye have the easy-learn melodies.

Blog Assignment #3

The Critique of Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2 World Premiere Trailer

I want to discuss this scene in two parts, and they are space and time. First of all, this scene used some mutative voice to display difference of space. For example, when the giant gorilla monster threw the smaller monster from dark entrance, the voice grows from a small beginning into mighty to show the distance between the protagonist and smaller monster is from far to near, and the mutative voice also show the movement of the action that giant monster threw the smaller monster. In addition, there also have the one strong and one weakness scream voices to discriminate two different monsters’ sizes of big or small, and perception of ferocity or cowardice. Also, the scene has the dissimilar. On other hand, when Yoda argue with Darth Vader in the protagonist’s mind, the speed and loudness is incremental. It can result audiences feel the situation was becoming more intense. And it also can make audiences to expect some antagonistic scenes will come out later. At last part, when the protagonist fight with the giant gorilla monster, the tonal center became very fast and intension that can give audience a feeling that there is no enough time to think anything without the fighting between the protagonist and the monster.

Blog Assignment #2

Click Here to read FINDING YOUR HOWL

I think the “howl” just means for animal’s wild nature. This article is about a red wolf who uses to be one of the captives’ offspring, Mumon. Captivity give all the offspring freedom to experiment if they still have there original ferity, but almost all the offspring seemed like prefer the life that be imprisoned except Mumon. Mumon wanted to be more like a wild animal. He was blank to kill a deer because he felt shame about that, but a raven gave him some useful guide.  Finally, Mumon got his howl back and get freedom to his pack.

"Man's dearest possession is life, and since it is given to him to live but once, he must so live as to feel no torturing regrets for years without purpose; so live so as not to be scarred with the shame of a trivial and cowardly past; so live that, dying, he can say: "All my life and all my strength were given to the finest cause in the world - The liberation of Mankind"

---Ostorovsky

When I only was a young boy, I watched a lot of Japanese Tokusatsu TV shows everyday. At that time, in my opinion, save world is too easy just like that kind of TV shows showed me until I read the book The Making of Steel. In this book I got the information that how hard to protect the country from enemies. It is a cruel war that make innumerable people who included army and innocent populace dead and innumerable city and civilization was broken. In this book I also saw a lot of great spirits and idol who lead people pass the hardest time even though this book is only a fiction instead the documentary. And I this quote from the author, Ostorovsky gave me a big shock of my life’s value.

First of all, Ostorovsky used protagonist’s voice to tell us a truth that we always know that is the most important thing for each person is their own life because every one only have only, so it is an invaluable asset for every one. Therefore the first sentence give me a resonance that I agree his viewpoint. Then, he said people shouldn’t fool along frigaround loaf of their life. I also agree this viewpoint since I think if I waste my life, I will feel guilty and shame for myself. I think every one want their life enrich and with a lot of magnificent moments.

Then, he said he wished when he looked back the past, he could say that he paid all his life in saving the world. Even though I was not 100% agree his opinion for this part since we can’t judge who is the completely justice side of the warfare, who save the world or who is will to destroy the world. However I am really appreciate of his light heart and his nerve. For his country in WWII, he did the correct things, and I think he definitely have right to say that sentence. Actually, my favorite part of that quote is “he must so live as to feel no torturing regrets for years without purpose; so live so as not to be scarred with the shame of a trivial and cowardly past”. For me, that is the central theme, and I have tried to do that way since I read that speak. I think I kind of made it, I chose game design as my major and go aboard to study, and it is not really popular to Chinese. Therefore, I see Ostorovsky as one of my idol because his sentence has changed me a lot in a positive way.

In addition, Ostorovsky make this speech run through whole book that when I read some part of that I would consider about the sentence that I prefer. It always give me a feeling that the protagonist leads me in a positive mood. Even at now, more than ten years after I read The Making of Steel, I still remember that don’t waste my life since that is the most important thing for myself. I did and do and still will do that way because I know that have a lot benefits for me, and help me a lot. So, I post this quote at my blog since I want to share it with you.

Blog Assignment # 1

I plan to call my character “Shadow Poison”, but actually he is a good guy, and there are three pictures:
                                                             www.baidu.com

First of all, for color, I choose this Dior’s ‘Poison’ perfume as my reference, and I chose dark purple and black I think this two colors can make people connect criminal in the mind, but in some fantastic story, this two colors also can stand for magic medicine. Therefore I want to show to people my character looks like a criminal, but actually he is justice inside. This two analogous colors’ saturation will be high in my character picture because I want to show he is hard-working to his job—use his own way to punch criminal. For value, I think I will use darker to show his Dark-Hero’s characteristic.

In addition, for light, I plan to give my character a dark front light and a bright back light. I think because he is a Dark-Hero who is just like Spawn, Deadpool, and Batman, people who live in the same genre world only can see his darkside his outside which is his criminal look, but nobody will be conscious that he do some justice things on night. Therefore, the bright back light is just like the area that people always guess so. In addition, the dark front light is stand for the area that “Shadow Poison” really is, and it’s the area only he knows himself.

Finally, for shape, I decide to create him as a dried tree, very thin, warping, and very scary for normal human. Because I think that shape can make people think about bad guy or criminal at the first time, and it also can show the character’s “poison” element since I think in a lot of scary movie, the poisoner and wizard live in the dried forest. Therefore, I decide to design my character has some deformed bones on his back, shoulder, arms, legs, rib, and head. When I put light on him, his shadow should be like a dried tree.

I plan to call my character’s antagonist “Alligator Tail”. He is a big one of the city, his underling in everywhere, and there are three pictures:

                                                             www.baidu.com

First of all, for color, I choose analogous gold and orange because gold stand of rich, position of society, power, and orange stand of warm. For this character, I use this gold and orange because I want make a false impression to people that he is a successful businessman, politician, philanthropist outside, but actually he is an evil guy inside. He used the illegal way to win everything. For saturation it also will be high just like “Shadow poison” because he needs bright color to show his big-one position. For value, I will do medium since medium is the best way to show how wasteful gold is.

                                                             www.baidu.com

In addition, for light, I chose the light from floor to give enough shadow on his face. In general, the light should be very bright, but it’s a gradual change that strongest on feet, and lowest on his face. I want to show that citizen only know a little bit about him, just like they only know his feet, and there is only a few people know who he really is, so I am going to put a little light on his face. Because his main color gold is very easy to reflection, his picture will be very blink.

Finally, for shape, I am going to design him like a strong and heavy alligator or a bear because it can show his high position, he doesn’t need to care eating problem. The heavy shape also can give people a feeling as slow for moving, and we also can put alligator skin’s keratin element on his suit, because that kind of tough texture can make people to be afraid to close to him. I wonder should I make his suit’s hem seems a heavy tail because it could make him more like a giant guy.
